James Brooks, MD

Dr. Brooks grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Left home and high school at 17 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, while in the Air Force took the GED.  He served in Vietnam and was released from the military in California. After his military service he worked as a fitness instructor.  At the age of 24 started college majoring in Biology.  Finished Bachelors in Biology at the University of California, Irvine in 1978.  Dr. Brooks served in the reserves while going through college, as well as in medical school.  He went to medical school at the University of California Irvine (UCI)  from 1978 through 1982.  Began residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (also at UCI) in July 1982.  During that same year he was married to his wife Kimberly in December. 

 Dr. Brooks began active duty in the Navy as a medical officer in January 1984. While he was in the Navy he recieved additional training in medicine, and increasing responsibilities until retirement from the Navy, as a Captain (O6) in February, 2002.  After leaving the military again he worked for a large multi-center hospital as Director of Occupational Medicine in Omaha, NE.  As well as in Mobile, AL from 2012 until April 2015 working in a combined Family Practice/Occupational Medicine setting.  Dr. Brooks moved to Kailua-Kona in April 2014 and is currently practicing his specialty of Occupational Medicine at Mango Medical.
