Family Medicine Physician located in Kamuela, HI

About Dr. Duerler

Timothy Duerler, MD, AAHIVS, is a board-certified family physician who specializes in preventive care, chronic disease management, and HIV medicine. As the co-founder, co-director, president, and CEO of Mango Medical, he offers a complete menu of primary care and specialty medical services to patients of all ages in and around Kamuela, Hawaii.

After more than a decade in practice, Dr. Duerler knows that the best way to offer his patients the education, advice, care, compassion, and support they need to achieve optimal health is by listening to their needs and establishing solid, one-on-one relationships built on trust.

Although he provides a full scope of medical services, Dr. Duerler is particularly interested in helping men and women prevent — or successfully manage — damaging chronic illnesses like diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension. Whenever possible, he takes a conservative, holistic approach that emphasizes health education and lifestyle modification over medication.

In 2002, Dr. Duerler received an undergraduate degree in nutrition, with minors in chemistry and music, from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. After earning his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 2005, he went on to complete his residency training in family medicine at the University of Hawaii in 2008.

In addition to a board-certification from the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Duerler holds an HIV specialist certification by the American Academy of HIV Medicine. Completed in 2009, this extensive training gives him the skills he needs to provide comprehensive care for persons living with HIV/AIDs.

Dr. Duerler is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Hawaii Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Academy of HIV Medicine. When he’s not practicing medicine, he enjoys spending time with his family, going to church, gardening, playing soccer, surfing, and homebrewing.
