When should I see a podiatrist?

  • Ingrown toenails
  • Bunions
  • Corns and calluses
  • Foot pain
  • Hammertoes
  • Heel pain
  • Plantar warts
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Achilles tendinitis
  • Arthritis
  • Heel spurs
  • Neuromas
  • Shin splints
  • Stress fractures
  • Diabetic foot conditions

If you are unsure what’s causing your foot or ankle pain, Dr. Gilley determines the underlying cause and customizes a treatment plan to relieve your pain and restore function.

How does a podiatrist treat Achilles tendinitis?

Achilles tendinitis is a condition in which your Achilles tendon — the tendon that connects your calf muscle to your heel bone — becomes inflamed and irritated. It’s often the result of overuse, a sports injury, or improper warm-up before physical activity. As you age, your Achilles tendon becomes more susceptible to injury.

If you feel a mild ache in the back of your leg, just above your heel after physical activity, like running or playing a sport, it could be a symptom of Achilles tendinitis. You may also experience tenderness or stiffness when you first step out of bed in the morning. Depending on your symptoms, Dr. Gilley recommends a treatment plan to alleviate pain and increase flexibility.

Your treatment plan may include:

  • Physical therapy and exercises
  • Orthotic devices
  • Compression
  • Ice
  • Rest
  • Elevation

Dr. Gilley and the Mango Medical team first take a conservative, non-surgical approach to your Achilles tendinitis. But, if you do need surgery because the tendon has ruptured, Dr. Gilley has the experience to repair the tendon.

How do I prevent foot and ankle injuries?

As part of the overarching philosophy for preventing conditions and achieving a healthy lifestyle, Dr. Gilley and the team at Mango Medical focus on helping you prevent foot and ankle injuries and all other podiatry-related conditions.

If you suffer from foot pain, Dr. Gilley may recommend losing weight, increasing your activity level, or wearing more supportive shoes or custom orthotics. He may also prescribe specific exercises for you to increase foot and ankle strength or ways to help alleviate bunions and hammertoes.
